a family following god

Before everything else we are a family that worships and follows God. God has revealed His great love for us through the death of Jesus on the cross, followed by His resurrection, the greatest demonstration of love the Universe has ever seen. Our response has been to lay down our lives (our jobs, future plans, money) and follow Him.
Since 1998 our family has been in full time Christian ministry. We began as youth pastors and teachers in Manitoba and joined Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in 2003.
We do our best to follow the will of God as revealed to us through the scriptures and by God's Holy Spirit. Jesus sums up God's will for us in 2 sentences...
'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second most important commandment is this: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ There is no other commandment more important than these two.”
We do our best to love God and love others in everything that we do. We have failed many times and made too many mistakes to count, but God has been very gracious to us and helps us to learn and grow. We are greatly encouraged by the testimony of the apostle Paul who wrote a letter and talked about his personal failures and God's response to him....
“My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 2:9

Missionaries
What is a missionary?
This is a question that we are often asked and we would like to take some time to give a good answer. We love our work and see a tremendous need for more people to become missionaries or at least more missions minded. Hopefully some of you will be inspired by what we write here and join us :)
Missionary work is changing
During the past 100 years missionary work has changed dramatically. In the past missionaries traveled to a distant country on a journey often taking several weeks by sail or steamship and then stayed in the country for 4 or more years. While they were there these missionaries focused on evangelism, traveling within the country preaching the gospel.
These early missionaries became leaders in the foreign church and often became their pastors and denomination leaders. The new christians were often taught N. American customs and modeled their churches/denominations after N. American churches/denominations.
Modern Missionaries
Missionaries in the 21st century are very different from their ground breaking missionary fathers. Missionaries are now able to travel to the other side of the world in just one or two days. With modern technology, missionaries are able to react and mobilize quickly to world events.
While visiting or living within a different culture, modern missionaries still focus on evangelism but they often do it by training and equipping local Christians to do the work. This means that local Christians are put into places of leadership within the church and the church takes on a different form than churches in N. America. This often multiplies the missionaries efforts, instead of just one missionary family trying to reach out to a nation/people group many believers are equipped share the good news. This training of local leaders allows people to worship God within their own culture instead of a foreign culture.
Another major change in missionary work the rise of "specialists." 100 years ago missionaries had to be preachers, teachers, advocates, doctors, politicians, and much more. Now missionaries often specialize in one area like community development, evangelism, relief work, or education.

What kind of missionaries are we?

Like most modern missionaries we are involved in sharing the Gospel and demonstrating God's love for the world through the training of new staff and developing new strategies to reach the lost.
We believe that Christian leaders who love God, love people, know the Bible and have some basic leadership skills can make a huge difference in their home communities and wherever God would lead them. We regularly teach in churches and YWAM training centres around the world. We also work within different YWAM teams focused on member care, leadership and education.
